Animal Equality is an international organization that works with society, governments and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals. Animal Equality has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and India. 

Animal Equality is seeking a skilled Front-End Developer to maintain, enhance, and expand our global websites and digital platforms. You will transform creative designs into high-performance, responsive, and accessible user experiences that drive our mission forward. Working closely with designers, back-end developers, and digital strategists, you will ensure that our websites remain modern, fast, and impactful across devices and regions.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve Animal Equality’s websites and landing pages.
  • Implement and optimize responsive designs, ensuring seamless functionality and accessibility across devices.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate UI/UX mockups into high-quality, performant front-end code.
  • Integrate front-end components with WordPress CMS and back-end systems.
  • Continuously monitor and improve website performance, loading speed, and SEO compliance.
  • Implement caching, compression, and code-splitting strategies.
  • Ensure web accessibility (WCAG standards) and browser compatibility.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Collaborate through Git version control following standard branching workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (design, marketing, tech) to deliver projects on time.
  • Stay updated with emerging front-end tools, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Proactively propose technical and UX improvements.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of Animal Equality’s digital infrastructure and design system.

Requirements:

  • Alignment with Animal Equality’s vision, mission, strategy and culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in front-end web development.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and extending modern websites and CMS-driven platforms.
  • Expert in HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Strong understanding of CSS/JS build tools (Webpack, Rollup, Vite, etc.).
  • Proficient with React, Vue, or similar frameworks.
  • Skilled in CSS frameworks or libraries (e.g., Bootstrap, Tailwind, or similar).
  • Familiarity with WordPress development and PHP integration.
  • Version control using Git (branching, merging, pull requests).
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong collaboration skills across diverse teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • High attention to detail and code readability.
  • Commitment to deadlines and high-quality standards.
  • Alignment with Animal Equality’s mission and ethical principles.
  • Ability to handle confidential projects with integrity and discretion.
  • A passion for building fast, beautiful, and meaningful digital experiences.
  • Ability to analyze user behavior and translate insights into front-end improvements.

Salary and benefits:

$70,000-80,000 annually. Benefits package includes 100% employer-covered health, dental, vision insurance, paid child care leave, a generous vacation package, paid sick time, 1 paid volunteer day per year, 2 floating holidays, monthly work-from-home internet stipend, and 401(k) with partial employer match.
